![]() This quote stuck out to me because of many things. “Niamh found that she was falling in love with Rois, and her heart ached, for Rois was promised to the prince of a neighboring kingdom, and she loved him, it is said, with a purity of heart that Niamh could not change.” Again, all the aspects of Cinderella, yet Lo was able to make it into a very different story.Ī quote that stood out to me while reading Ash but Malinda Lo was : Instead of the main character being named Cinderella, she is named Ash. Lo did in fact take her own imagination and added it to her version. ![]() Another aspect that both stories share is that the main character is treated like a slave and is treated lesser by her step-family. These characters are important and are a big part of the storyline of Cinderella. Things that remain similar between the two are the evil stepsisters and stepmother. In Ash Lo adds those key aspects that makes the story a retelling of Cinderella. How a text cannot be a retelling without key aspects that make it the significant story. ![]() In class on Friday, February 9th we discussed intertextuality. Ash by Malinda Lo is very similar to the story Cinderella.
